Sackcloth2joy Band first started when Myra Hutchison and Margaret McLaughlin met
and began singing together in 1996. Their unique harmonies and honest lyrics were
met with great interest from audiences. Sherri Simpson joined the band in 2004 adding
a third vocal. Three female
vocals along with the unique instrumentation of the band
draw a crowd where ever they go.
The band has played for coffee houses, festivals, college campuses, and women's conferences.
Much of the music of Sackcloth2joy Band is written by the band members and reflects
the members' own struggles and the answers they have found to those struggles through
Jesus.
They have diverse musical backgrounds and tastes, and these are blended to
make a style that is distinctly their own. In concert, this translates to a fun yet
meaningful concert which ministers to the audience in a personal way. The band has
gone back to the basics with an acoustic tour featuring the intricate harmonies accompanied
by acoustic guitar and unique hand percussion.
The name Sackcloth2joy comes from Psalm
30:11-
Although at any given concert other musicians may play with
these three women, Sackcloth2joy Band members are Myra Hutchison, Margaret McLaughlin
and Sherri Simpson.

Originally from Denham Springs, LA, Margaret sings lead vocals on some of the band's songs, but she primarily focuses on intense harmonies. In concert, she primarily plays acoustic guitar. She also plays electric guitar, lap dulcimer and mandolin. Along with Myra, Margaret writes much of the band's songs. The Lord has gifted her with wisdom, which is evident in the lyrics she writes as well as when she speaks on stage. Margaret has a Master's Degree in Social Work, which helps her understand and minister to the variety of spiritual and emotional struggles that audiences might face. Although she enjoys many musicians, both vocalists and guitarists, her style is uniquely her own.
